Senior Clinical Associate
Hello, my name is Katie Retzner. My desire to learn and understand people began many years ago when I studied Neurobiology and Behavior as an undergraduate. I later obtained an MA in Communications, and an MSW (Master of Social Work). I am a former school social worker and have been doing clinical work for over 11 years. My therapeutic approach includes cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), Gestalt, solution-focused, parent/child therapy, mindfulness, and Internal Family Systems (IFS). I work with people ranging in age from 5 to 90. My faith in God is a vital part of me, and I offer Christian counseling to anyone who is open to it. My approach is highly relational and I integrate understanding, humor, kindness, and creativity into sessions to help create an atmosphere of acceptance and safety. My goal is to allow you to share anything and everything without fear of rejection or judgment. My approach is strengths-based, which means that I work to learn about all of the positive things about you (even those you may have forgotten!) as well as your interests so that we can tap into them to help you identify and reach your goals.
In the past, I taught parenting classes for a school district and gave presentations at local high schools and churches on communication with teens and positive approaches to parenting challenges. My areas of specialization include parenting, relationship issues, anxiety, depression, and life transitions (premarital, new parent, empty nest, divorce/separation, stepfamilies, bereavement, failure to launch, and aging issues). I have been married since 1982 (a very good year!) and have two adult children and three grandchildren. I consider my work both a calling and a privilege and look forward to helping you on a path of greater understanding, hope, and healing.
