Hi, my name is Veda Simmons, and I am passionate about helping people! Everyone wants to be heard and valued. My approach as a counselor is to build a strong therapeutic relationship with you that displays caring, support and warmth in a nonjudgmental space in every session. I will demonstrate consistent empathy towards your feelings and struggles while verbalizing positive regard and validating you. I believe our thoughts (positive and negative) have a strong influence on our emotions (the way we feel about something and how we perceive ourselves and others) and our behaviors (how we act and react to different situations and circumstances).
I graduated from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology with a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. My view of clients is to walk with you on your journey to realizing their potential. I will point out different areas that you may want to understand more about – your past and/or present as you move on and grow into your future. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a fundamental theory I initially will start with. However, I am open to integrating other evidence-based approaches and techniques into the session when warranted. It is my goal to work with you to assist you in obtaining your desired outcomes and treatment goals.
I have worked with adolescents, adults (young and seniors), and couples. I have experience working with individuals seeking help with anxiety, depression, grief/bereavement, communication difficulties in relationships, faith counseling, and coping with life transitions (empty nest syndrome, retirement, moving, etc.). I believe that our answers to life’s difficulties are within each of us and sometimes we just need assistance from someone to help discover them for ourselves.
