Alex Hilburn, LCSW
Life is a challenge. There is no getting around that. And while therapy cannot remove these difficulties, it can help us to understand that we no longer have to go through it alone.
As your therapist, I believe that it is my job to act your guide; to help you to better understand how past experiences and life lessons have shaped your understanding of yourself and the world, and how these viewpoints may be negatively impacting your responses. I consider identifying and disputing misleading ideas and narratives and building upon your existing strengths as the first step toward accessing the peace and mental wellbeing that you truly deserve.
In my professional career, I have experience working with children, adolescents, and adults with varying presenting issues. These include but are not limited to trauma, anxiety, depression, and parenting challenges. I engage in both LGBTQIA+ affirmative and culturally attuned practices. In my work, I utilize multiple evidenced-based practices, including EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, play therapy, and parent management training, as well as body-based work and mindfulness strategies. Most importantly, I focus on establishing a safe, trusting and strong therapeutic relationship, to foster growth and positive change.
