Welcome! My name is Nithya Karpagavinayagam (she/her) and I offer person-centered, humanistic therapy that incorporates mindfulness and evidence-based interventions. My goal is to create a non-judgmental and compassionate environment that promotes discovery, growth, and holistic wellness. As a clinician, I will walk alongside you as you expand your understanding of yourself through self-acceptance and self-compassion and produce change towards the life you want for yourself.
I received my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Northeastern Illinois University and my Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience from the University of Illinois at Chicago. I believe having a background in both gives me a more well-rounded understanding of mental well-being and therapy.
I enjoy working with young adults and adults. I work with clients experiencing symptoms of anxiety, ADHD, grief/loss, low self-esteem, life transitions, work/life balance, and identity issues. I am passionate about working with a diverse range of people including those who identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ community. I specialize in working with young adults navigating adulthood, careers, and the process of self-discovery after secondary and post-secondary education.
My approach to counseling is person-centered, strengths-based, and trauma-informed. I use an eclectic approach, drawing from various treatment modalities including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT).
