I am a clinician for those struggling with addiction and the family disruption that accompanies loving those who struggle. Addiction is a symptom of a deeper trauma that involves a person’s inability to regulate themselves and tolerate the demands of daily living. As a result, addiction takes over all the person’s power and ability to choose. Here, you will find the non judgmental space to explore the underlying unresolved conflicts that are aggravating the need to cope with substances (or processes: food, shopping, video games, sex). We start where you are in the stage of change. Whether you are still using, have recently stopped using or are managing sobriety, we can utilize tools that compliment every stage of change. Stopping is a necessary first step, staying stopped is the stage of change that requires the most support.
Whether your “drug of choice” are substances: alcohol, pharmaceuticals, marijuana, or processes: sex (pornography), love, gambling, food, or emotions- I can help you manage the impact of the compulsive behaviors. Some signs of the behaviors becomes compulsive are: relationships becoming impacted, making commitment to stop- and finding yourself acting out again, increasing energy, or money spent on the activity over time, decrease in activities that historically brought pleasure, withdrawal from loved ones, disruption of work/or school activities, and feelings of desperation around the substance/or behavior. If you are suffering with any of these symptoms, partnering with me can help you gain the strength you need to make a commitment to yourself and follow it through. You do not have to do this alone.
In addition, I provide support for those struggling with intimacy and sexual health. Our work together will include any historical nature of the concern, coupled with psychoeducation to help you understand the component of healthy sexuality. When trauma is part of the history, we will use EMDR to help neutralize the experiences, so you can regain control of your sexual part of self.
