Hello! My name is Ana Anaya and my goal in therapy is to create a safe and supportive environment for all clients and families. My educational experience is in both counseling and psychology. I started my Masters degree in the counseling psychology in the state of California as a hopeful marriage and family therapist, but due to drastic life changes and family health challenges I transferred and completed the Masters program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in the state of Illinois. I would say that due to my background in two different programs, I was able to develop a more rounded and bicultural understanding of therapy.
Throughout my professional experience, I have had the privilege to work in a variety of setting with different clientele including children, adolescents, families, adults and couples struggling with depression, anxiety, grief, mood disorders, personality disorders, life transitions, self-esteem, PTSD and trauma. I have worked in inpatient, outpatient, community-based, and healthcare settings providing therapy, counseling, crisis intervention and case management services to at-risk individuals. Even though my theoretical orientation lens is through a psychodynamic perspective, I have experience in other modalities and like utilizing a holistic approach to cater and facilitate therapy that is in the best interest of my clients. I am looking forward to starting this process together and exploring self awareness, growth and the ability to make changes.
