What is DBT ? DBT is like CBT with some variations. The technique of DBT includes the following qualities:
- Support:In Group, you will be helped to focus on your strengths, and become mindful of your ability to change.
- Behavioral: Instead of being ruled by behavior patterns, things you do over and over again expecting different results, you will be taught to notice patterns and solve problems more effectively.
- Cognitive: After you understand the beliefs that govern your life “I am weak,” “I can never be good enough”- your group will help you change negative thinking patterns to effective thinking strategies.
- Skill sets:Since you don’t know what you don’t know, increasing knowledge will help you be more skillful at change.
- Acceptance and change:Your group will help you learn techniques to accept and tolerate strong emotions, without rejecting them. Instead, you will build you resiliency, improving your behaviors and interactions with others.
- Collaboration: You’ll learn to communicate effectively in a group, learning to lean on others for support and inclusion.
